MiraclesMiracles are interventions of gods affecting straight to mortal world. Straight intervention can happen only through high-priest, if the miracle is prayed for. There have however been also situations where priest has been adapter of miracle. But in this kind of case the belief of the priest have been very strong and he has converted especially many intuals to worship his god or he has been able to sacrifice especially strong sacrifices for his god.
Adapter of miracle (usually high-priest) can't define the miracle gods decide to carry out. Miracles can be wished as often as priest wants to, but they rarely come true.
Small miracles happen daily for both the priests and parishioners. Atheists would insist that small miracles are only good luck or accidents. Small miracle can happen even without praying and it could also be that priest prays cure for his daughter's plague and after a month daughter heals.
Usually a little sacrifice is needed for the miracle to come true. The sacrifice must be personal (not an item and rarely a creature) and it must not be routine. The sacrifice can for example be that priest promises to turn another cheek when someone is unfair to him and he would have rights to revenge. Or alcoholic priest can promise that he would stay entire day without drinking. Usually this kind of sacrifice however can not be any "pilgrimage" at a nearest church for a fast prayer.
"Yesterday went to flies." This phrase means that sacrifices can not be stored. If the alcoholic priest mentioned earlier, was yesterday without drinking, he can't appeal into that if praying today.
Small sacrifices are not enough for bigger miracles and rarely even bigger sacrifices are enough. Big miracles can usually be carried out only if matter is acute or personally concerns the god (Gods fight through their high-priests). Big miracle can for example be a tsunami that destroys "sinful village" or dividing ocean, or high-priest becoming into a fiery bird, etc.
Sudden incarnation of gods is only a legend. Also gods must born from woman as they have themselves directed their laws. All laws of nature concern also gods, though they have left some "loopholes", which all humans don't know.
CreationsCreation spells are most powerful of all priest spells. All kind of creations from creation of small plants to creation of great holy warhammer belong to creation spells. Although these spells are not the most powerful ones, these spells are not allowed to be used in vain. Priest must always have very good reason when using creation spells. Creation spells are most holy of all spells.
If priest have been entire week without food, he could use his last powers and create a meal. Also resurrections belong to creation spells. This kind of spells rather are summoning magic that calls soul of dead back, but both, creation of food and resurrection equally demand attention of gods. When this kind of attention is first time being directed to priest, he falls into ecstasy. Every attention directed to priest after that increases his burden. Even if priest knows that he doesn't have to feel any compunctions, still this kind of attention every time squeezes his conscience more and more. Quite soon attention of gods causes visible signs in priest's body. At first his hair starts getting gray and he starts becoming bald. Then come wrinkles, infirmity and finally shaking. These symptoms are not deadly and also young priest, who have gotten too much attention, may get them. Gods don't deliberately do this for their priests, it is only a side effect of godhood.
Also necromancy belongs to creations category. Necromancy in a way is creation power that causes most dependency, because it grants powers over other mortals and that power is easily thirsted more and more.
Forces of naturePriest spells affecting forces of nature have frightening power. These spells need partial attention of gods, but don't, however, cause same kind of symptoms as creations. Spells that control weather, cause natural disasters, call lightning and manipulate different elements belong to forces of nature.
ProtectionThird powerful spell category is protection spells. These spells need passive attention of gods. Because priests in a way spent their whole life under watchful eyes of their god, this power won't need active attention of gods. When needed, priests only activate their protectorate and concentrate on protection.
AttackingAttack and will to attack comes from the priest himself, who however channels the power from the "manabowl" of his god. From that comes the term "channeling", because priest takes the power from his god's manabowl and lets it first flow to himself and then channels it to his enemy as a spell.
Spiritual changesPriests are better oriented for spiritual matters than physical matters. Because of this, spiritual changes are more respected than physical. Spiritual and physical changes are however about in the same level.
Physical changesPriest have never really familiarized examining physical changes or conditions. This is more wizards' domain. Most spells handling physical changes belong usually to other divine magic category.
HealingThis is a special field of priests and wizards lack this field nearly entirely. Reason for this is that flowing channeling-magic is renewable. In principle only renewable magic is capable of renewing living tissues. In a way channeling magic (some call it also "living magic") can renew old life from nothing on a tissue level.
Wizards have by-passed the healing power of channeling either by stealing the renewing ability from others or by manipulating time.
Knowledge gatheringThere are many kind of spells that help gathering knowledge. Most of them base on time: past, present and future.
This magic however doesn't manipulate time in any way wizard magic does. On the contrary, for example, magic used in prediction bases on that consciousness of priest leaves the "float of time" and inspects events outside of time. Because of this the achieved knowledge is not as reliable as wizard magic can gather.
(The following chapter uses terms "consecrated" and "priest" but they cover also other users of channeling magic. Priest is more powerful user of channeling magic and consecrated is lesser.)
(Examples used in the following chapter concern good gods, but same information is applicable for evil priest and gods when adapted in their outlook of life.)
Chosen of gods
Priests Will - MatterPriests are intuals who have dedicated their life to serve some divinity. They are in special favor of their god if compared with other members on congregation. Usually congregation comprises of peasantry, church staff in other words all workers from acolytes to ceremony-master and the third class is priests. Priests have been divided into two category: consecrated and priests.
Main task for the consecrated is to enlighten the congregation in a matters of religion and perform common services and rituals. Consecrated are also messengers and missionaries of their god. For this reason consecrated are also called as temple-knights or holy wanderers. These titles are used even if consecrated would not use plate mail and carry holy warhammer. Though they always have fate as their shield and words as their blade.
Only consecrated and priests are able to cast spells. Their magic comes straight from their god. Priests always have straight connection to the "mana-bowl" of their god and from that bowl they have permission to channel certain quantity of power to win troubles and enemies. The more priest believes to be part of his god and obeys will of his god, the wider is his connection to his gods spirit. Thus allowing him more powerful spells to cast.
Priest use holy symbol for focusing their spells. Holy symbol is "earthly" form of god and it strengthens the faith of priest. In principle priest must see and touch something his god has blessed. Most powerful high-priests have so strong faith that they don't need to see any "proves" about their god, but can cast spells without any symbols of their faith. At some point high-priest either feels that holy symbol is only physical and mental burden in the way of true enlightenment or he just forgets to touch his symbol when casting spell.
In their own temples consecrated and priests are more powerful than usually. It can be said that priest can not be wounded in his own temple. Well, of course no priest is able stop attacking army by himself even if he is in his own temple.
Animists Will - Knowledge - MatterDruids are also known by the name animist. They live in the middle of their faith and there they are also most powerful. Since birth, every druid feels strange longing. Their longing calms down always in forests but not permanently. Of his youth druid roams and seeks something he don't know. He might roam over half of his life, till finally feels that some place is his home and calms down. This is the point when people start calling him as a druid. When still wandering, druid is usually called by many names but the most common are wanderer and stroller. He comes from nowhere and doesn't know where is going but in forests he feels calmness.
WanderersWanderers usually unite together and travel together. In this way moving villages of thousand wanderers can born. Amidst villages families form and unfortunately also brake down when some family member finds his/her own place. Although their culture is like this, they are absolutely monogamous.
If mother of the family finds her place and entire village is moving on, father usually stays with mother and helps with children. When children are old enough to survive with their mother, man can leave searching his own place. Only mother (now druid/animist) and her children stay living in druid's land. To same extend, if man of the family finds his place and village moves on, usually women goes with the village.
DruidsChildren of druid won't necessary become wanderers but they can become urbanized or do what home leaving children usually do. Sometimes children might bring their own families to live in druid's (their mother's) land. Later, the place usually grows to a village or even a small town.
Druid is very powerful when in his/her own land. His land area is his temple and as the priest, also druid is nearly invulnerable on his own land. Druids don't need any holy symbols when in the nature. If they are elsewhere, they can focus their power through wooden stave for example. Druids carry wooden stave with them, because it is very useful for an old man or women when moving in difficult terrain. When threatened, druids always first ask the enemy to leave their forest and not until then they take more powerful means in use. All "spirits of forest" are at druids side and druid is at their side. This comprises all insects, animals, plants and even the land itself.
Druids always worship gods and powers of nature, like An'Gaia, Garneird and Ananum. Druids have found balance between evil and good and law and chaos, always trying to maintain this balance. Life and birth are holy matters and so is also death. Some animals and plants become eaten and that is the circulation of nature. This circulation must be respected without forgetting to thank those who are eaten.
Druids know well forests and plants. With combining and extracting herbs, they can strengthen the herbs effect, mix strong poisons or antidotes.
Druid is not only living in the forest - he is part of the forest.
Shamans Will - Voice - FiguresShamans are not common channeling spellcasters. Their don't get their powers straightly from gods but from ancestors died at prime material plane and powerful spirits of nature. Dead ancestors however get their powers from Toga, Theala or other gods. Mostly, dead ancestors try to avoid using powers of Toga, because that power is negative energy and has too big risk of damaging their living descendants.
Members of shaman tribes perform shadow ritual at the moment of dead or right after that with other shamans. In this ritual dying promises to protect descendants and tribe beyond the borders of death. This oath eases their agony, when other shamans call for their help. This ritual gives them power to resist thirst for life, that all dead have. The oath has only one prerequisite and that is that dead must rest in peace until Dinia is next time full. If the rest is not allowed, the dead is doomed for serving Toga and it becomes powerful enemy of the tribe. It then thirsts only revenge and blood of its living descendants.
Shamans are also in harmony with spirits of nature and elements. When new child births in shaman's tribe, some element or nature's spirit takes him/her under its protection. Element spirits are rarer but usually stronger. Soul-spirits of earth, fire, air and water belong to element spirits. Soul-spirits are most powerful of all spirits and are often described as a fiery bird. All spirits of trees and animals belong to spirits of nature. Commonly tribe's next shaman is person whose protection spirit is fiery bird or soul-spirit of air. Earth's, fire's and water's proteges are good leaders.
Promises and oaths are agreed with spirits and are sealed by runes, combined runes, symbols and bands that has different colors and lacing. Shamans are in connection with spirits of nature and ancestors through these symbols or bands and with trance caused by voices and incenses. It is very dangerous to disturb shaman discussing with spirits, because the guardian spirit might take control of the body of shaman and destroy the disturber.
Exceptions and borderline cases
Witches Will - Knowledge - Matter
Witches use static and flowing energy separately unlike arcanists, which use magic in its original and undivided form. The channeling that witches use comes either from gods or from dragons, who have powers of demi-god. It is also possible that flowing magic doesn't come from any god but is "no-ones flow."
