Haran

General description

A typical haran is about 165-185cm height and weights about 60-75 kilos. They are quite fair-skinned and hair color varies from light-brown to dark-brown. Completely blonde hairs are rare. Commonly eyes are brown or blue in color. Life expectancy of haran is about 50-60 years.

General personality

Calm, peaceful and appreciate good body health and healthy way of life. Smoking is a bad habit if not even a sin. Drinking alcohol is acceptable, but only if every other class is water. And in the way of old habits, haranish taverns serve alcohol only with class of water and piece of bread. Undeniably especially in time of festivals waitresses collect full baskets of untouched bread and buckets of water and put them back on sale. Brewing, selling and consuming own alcohol in private chambers or cabinets is acceptable.

In principle smoking is denied in taverns and inns, but no-one actually supervises it. Nowadays under power of empire all old and rigorous limits have mostly given way.

Clothing / Decorations / Architecture

On week-days haran people mainly wear simple, practical and single colored clothes. During festivals and important meeting they usually wear their decorated and many colored festival-attires.

Popular decoration subjects are nature and especially animals and creepers. Most popular decoration is a fiery bird that has seven long tail feathers. Other common decoration subjects are different weather phenomena. Mirion's old coat of arms had fiery bird with sword and sickle in its claws and a golden statute-book in its peak.

Realistic and accurately describing art is very characteristic for haran. Music is strongly expressing and poetry has sensitive and philosophical, but strong features.

Housing / Society

Haran live mainly in Caion continent and there areas of former Mirion and nowadays NewMirion. Most important part of haran life is family. Own family comes first and only after that all other commitments.

Livelihood and Economy

Mixed economy (Worth mentioning is haranish LeoGurthos' family, which owns the secret of gunpowder.) Common used raw-materials are mould, surface water, wood, surface rock, iron, copper and bronze.

Relationship

Family descends always by the man.

Language and Penmanship

Haran people speak hurtil. Forename of nobles is joined to surname when young noble child is 21 years old and adult. In other words forename and surname are written without space between them. Forename is usually three letters long, but can also be even five letters long. Forename can mean something, but traditionally forename is only combination of letters parents have created. Especially upper class invent names that mean nothing. In addition to nobles and clergy about 9% of people can read and write.

Religion and Religious festivals

Traditional god pantheon led by Garneird. Beside him also other element gods are worshipped.

Myths and Legends

The prediction is common myth among haran. It is written by a unknown man long time ago. The man has been said to be the first who saw Kaukaisus (the land of Gods) and escaped from there. The prediction has at least 32 chapters or omens and only three of them has been found. Most known and clearest prediction describes the great merging that happened over two centuries ago. That also predicts the born of haran empire.

Legend of KalPaor the first star-general, who led the haranish people in to this world and when the time comes, he will also lead them away.

Another famous legend is legend about holy Valdor. He is the ancestor of haran people and accepted Garneird's alliance beyond borders of this world.

History / Comprehensions about history

There is no written information about haran prehistory, but all knowledge has passed as spoken tradition from generation to generation. Tradition tells that long, long time ago first star-general KalPaor led haranish people in to this world inhabiting south-western part of Caion continent. People lived peacefully for centuries in their residential areas.

After the war of Black sun maval started conquering more areas from south for themselves and invaded haran lands. Maval had better weapons and bigger armies than haran and despite of hard resistance of haran, maval conquered Mirion and joined it to the Barond empire. A large number of haran escaped conquerors to the sea. There they settled up on islands in the western side of Caion. Numerous refugees noted that barren islands were good place to live and defend. Gradually small only few huts consisting residential areas grew for villages and cities. Islands got name NewMirion and it became a free new nation of haranish people.

Although the war against maval doesn't officially exist, it is far from forgotten and end. Haran could never forgive conquest and robbing their lands. All the time the war has continued behind the curtains for final victory.

Haran believe that they are not from this world and when human dies, he gets back to his own world.

Technology

Principally early middle-ages, but gunpowder has already been invented (Only one family has its secret.).

Military / Common weapons and techniques

Star-general is always biggest leader after king. At the moment, when Barond has conquered Mirion, Mirion is led by a 21 persons conclave, which operates under straight command of Barond emperor. The conclave can however decide almost all matters of Mirion.

People in Mirion are waiting for real Star-general, who would release the land from emperor's rule. Star-general would also be the one, who would show them a new king and ceases the conclave.

Mirion army was ceased and most soldiers joined empire or private guards or left the country. Rumors tell that not all agreed to leave the war, but founded an secret organization called Harna. Harna is told to be training women and men to freedom fighters. Empire however denies this as does the conclave.

Empire soldiers patrol all over the country and almost every town has empire's town hall. Town also have a real town hall, i.e. so called civil town hall. Empire soldiers keep guard on every town, but don't bother to guard villages.

Mainly all use iron swords and shields. Wealthy people have everything made of steel. Only conclave members and nobles can use firearms. The gunpowder, however, is ending, because the LeoGurthos family has gone exile with the secret of gunpowder on them. All soldiers principally use ring mails.

Empire instructor invest a lot for war theory. Very low ability to read however causes harm as it did in times of Mirion army too.

Attitude towards other races

Haran have quite neutral attitude towards other races, except for mavalan, who they despise. When other races, except mavalan, are in question, they don't judge entire race, but individuals by their actions.

Magic

Haran are magically talented and can adopt magical skills quite easily. NewMirion area still has some wizards, but in Mirion number of wizards has decreased, due severe persecutions of Barond empire. Nowadays in time of empire all magic and powers of mind are forbidden. This was serious situation for haran, because there was plenty of wizards among their people (0.2%) and they were respected. Nowadays all magic users are burned in burning pile.

Other

Many numbers mean something to haran. 3 is lucky number, 4 is a number of destiny, 5 means bad luck, 7 usually describes upheaval and new time, 9 is number of balance and harmony and 21 is very political number.
