There are many kinds of bards. Most of them are common storytellers, entertainers and performers. Those bards are often only called by a common name jester. Some bards are able to use magic. Their official name is troubadour and they can be counted to be belonging to the rune-singers. Third group of bards, who rightly call themselves as bards, are performing psychists.
In a way bards are telepaths, who have specialized in manipulating crowds of intuals. Psi-powers of bards are not even nearly as deep scanning as those of telepaths, but the telepaths have got used to manipulating only one focus of thoughts at a time. Very often the influence of bard’s psi-powers bases on music and sound. They have learned to use psi-energy of target intuals for their own psi-powers. The bard is a certain kind of psi-center between targets. By means of his own psi-energy the bard leashes the music or sound gathering a pinch of psi-energy from the target audience and reflecting that possibly in manipulated form back to the target audience. That way bards are able to control even a large crowds. Usually bards act by the emotion part of mind of the target audience. They can take advantage of mass behavior of typical intuals.
Lifestyle of bards however is like a two-edged-sword. Manipulation of crowds is insidiously mind burdening. It gives a rather big power for the bard and in some cases the bard could forget his responsibility, which should always grow along with power. That kind of power is seen as arrogance and abuse of the psi-energy of the target audience. The bard after all always depends on psychic well-being of his target audience. Normally the bard takes only a pinch of psi-energy and returns it in a desired form. Arrogant bard becomes hungrier and hungrier: The more he gets energy from intuals, the more he needs it and the less he wants to give it back. That kind of abundance of psi-energies inevitably leads to psychosis, which very often leads to megalomania and possibly to scattering of consciousness.
Because of those reasons meditation and absorption is very important for bards. The bard must think very carefully why he performs. Is he doing that for his own ego or why? The bard must observe himself much more than other psychist have to. Meditation and loneliness can be in any case mind refreshing practice for a bard getting along well in crowds.
All bards are not typical performers. Some of them have become enthusiastic of myths, tales and legends via storytelling. Via their interest those bards have developed a way to find more tales to be told. They have found a way to study different items. In their studies the bards ascertain where the item originates. Studying the essence of items has been developed so far that bards are even able to find out where even magical or psychical items originate from, method of manufacture and powers of the item.
