Short overview

Badar is a well fortified small town of little over 1600 inhabitants located in middle parts of Alcandia. Buildings of this tightly built town have been mainly made of logs upon stone foundations. Most of the buildings have a shingle roof. The town is surrounded by a sturdy stone wall, which is about seven meters height and three meters thick. About 12 meters high stony guard towers in edge sites of the wall give an impression of a castle. Mighty castle of count Aceruen is located on a flank of the town.

History

Badar has born on a flank of ruler’s castle at beginning of the Age of miracles. Before the war of the Black sun there were a lot more settlements outside the town walls, but then came the war and almost all external buildings were destroyed. The town itself didn’t survive without damages either, but was partly burned. The forces of chaos occupied and terrorized the town for about a year. Right after the war people begun rebuilding the town and rather quickly everything was mostly repaired and trading began again.

Town management

Badar is ruled by a count Aceruen, who is very popular among people. He can often be seen watching the town with his escort. The count’s attitude towards peasantry causes a lot of grudge among other nobles and he isn’t respected much higher than a common peasant. The laws are following typical Alcandian line and are strict but fair.

Maintenance of the law

Town guards take care of town’s safety. The guards comprise of about 100 guardsmen. The guards don’t actually belong to Alcandian army. The guardsmen carry emblems of Badar. In addition to town guards the count’s castle is guarded by his personal elite guards. The elite guards comprise of about 50 men and they patrol only in the area of the castle. Town guards are equipped with a chain mail and long sword. The elite guards are equipped with chain mails, halberds and long swords.

Numerous dwarven smiths forge excellent metal items from candlesticks to weapons and armors to both merchants and town residents. The dwarven smiths also teach blacksmithing skills to a willing people. A needed ore is achieved from the hills located south of the town. A trading route passing through the town ensures a good acquisition of merchandise for town residents. Lands surrounding the town are cultivable and mainly rye and turnips are farmed in fields. A lot of wood is get from the surrounding forests for merchandise. Some cattle are also bred.

Also few half-elves live in town. Other mainly occasionally represented races are paladries, wood elves and Halflings. Principal language is alcean, but most merchants speak also saage.
