"Time, that eternal man, with rod in his hand.
He commands beasts of the past, present and the future,
with his daughters, the three sisters of destiny,
which sit in eternity's crossing, spinning the golden string of dying people"
- Chorne Thanes -

Calendar

The first races counting time were Dragons and Titans. The calendar of Dragons was very accurate, but also so complicated that it was impossible for other races to understand it. Titans, to the same extent, counted time but only roughly, and so it was easier for elves to adopt it. Humans didn't learn counting time until the age of law. Short living humans however, were not satisfied with the way elves count time, so they simplified it to it's current accuracy.

The year of Meln includes 366 days. The year has been divided into eight starturns. The year begins from the starturn of the hourglass, three days before the vernal equinox. These three days are called the Time of Waking. Time of Waking is a time of new hope for humans.

All starturns, except Starturn of Dragon, consists 45 days. Only the Starturn of Dragons has 51 days. Time from 1. to 7. of starturn of dragons is also called Starturn of Fishes, because then the constellation of Fishes is brightest.

Winter solstice is also called as a night of Kaukaisus. At that time the star of Kaukaisus is brightest. The star of Kaukaisus can only be seen at the Starturn of Fishes. The night of Kaukaisus is a glimpse of hope in the middle of winter darkness.

The three moons and their cycles

Orna

Is a big, bone white moon. It's cycle lasts 24 days and it is closer Meln than the two other moons, so it looks biggest. It's illumination is strongest and it's affect to the tides is more powerful than the other moons' affects . Because Orna illuminates mostly, it is easily kept as a representative of light. It is also kept as the strongest one, because it sometimes "eats" other moons. Because Orna affects the tides so strongly, sailors say it brings luck to them. With Orna's help, the sailors conclude winds and the success of their journeys.

Orna

Duir

Is the greenery and fertility of mother earth, as some cultures believe. Duir is green and the second biggest moon. So it's the second closest moon to Meln. Duir's cycle lasts 6 days longer than Orna's, so it's cycle lasts 30 days. Duir is said to be a bringer of a good and ample crop. And that's why it is also called as a protector of farmers. Duir seems to be about twenty-five percent smaller than it's sister Orna. Duir's illumination is not as powerful as Orna's, but it's greenness brings calmness to minds of the people. Duir has more psychological influence than Orna, but in spirituality there is no winner for Dinia.

Dinia

Wins with its mysteriousness and enigmaticy even the night itself. This blue celestial body creates an almost invisible hue of blue light. In the light of Dinia, only eyes sensitive to magic can see such kinds of matters, which others can't. Dinia is that which inspires artists, keeps werewolves awake and shapes magical forces. Some people have said that Dinia is hardened magic. Dinia is the furthest and "smallest" of the moons, but wizards always remember that it is also mentally the most powerful. Dinia's cycle lasts 36 days. 5th day of a week is called Dinia and it is also a day of rest.

These three moons travel night sky with their own peaceful pace. Maybe they are the three sisters of destiny. Young and beautiful, mature and fertile, and aged and wise. The power of these moons depends on their size. And, if in question is the expert, he notices also that how high the moon is at highest. The higher the moon is more commanding it is. Below is a list of moon cycles and their altitudes.

Old and wise astrologers have said that cycle of moons started when world was ready. So the computation of moon cycles must be started at midday.

Sun

Meln orbits a twin star called Quaithu. Quaithu consists of two equal sized suns. The suns are pure white and red in color. Together they form normal daylight. The two stars orbit slowly and are very close to each other. To Meln, Quaithu doesn't seem to be two separate suns, but its form varies from circular to oval. When one sun is in front of the other one, the light of the front sun is little stronger. For this reason very slow pulsating light can be observed in Meln. It is believed that this "pulsating" is the power of heartbeats of the heart of Meln.

Solar year is the time, when these two suns cycle around each other. Using this counting method, the solar year is 233 days. From Meln, the suns growth from oval to circular lasts about 29 days (29 days and three hours). Because Meln orbits Quaithu at different direction than suns orbit each other, cycle of suns appears to be faster than it really is.
